What are the criteria for S pass? How will S pass applications be assessed? Can you tell me more about the points system? How many points will each category have and how many points will I need for an S pass?

Applicants for S pass will be assessed on a points system. The points system comprises 4 main categories, namely, salary, educational qualifications, number of years of work experience and job type to enable a broader assessment of the applicant. Applicants chalk up points based on how far they meet the criteria. The points allocated for each category of criteria will vary over time depending on market conditions. For some illustrations of the point system, please click here.
As a general guide, these criteria can be broadly described as (for illustrative purposes only):
a. Salary - refers to the minimum basic salary of $1,800. Basic salary is a standard component of income used to compare the income of foreigners across all sectors and industries.
b. Qualifications - generally refer to degree or diploma level educational qualifications. Technical qualifications can be considered and are, very broadly, courses that train the applicant to be a qualified technician or specialist in their chosen field. This should be obtained after at least 1 year of full-time study. To use a Singapore example, this would include NTC 2 or higher National ITE Certificate (NITEC) courses.
c. Job Type - generally refers to professional or specialist or technician level jobs.
d. Years of Work Experience - generally refers to the number of relevant years of experience that the applicant has for the job being applied for under the S pass.

Apart from the criteria contained in the points system, are there other controls imposed on S pass holders?

No. S pass holders are not subject to source controls, that is, they can be recruited from any country as long as they can meet the qualifying criteria.
S pass holders will also not be subject to six-monthly medical examinations or any maximum duration of employment in Singapore.

No, the S pass holders do not have to attend the Construction Safety Orientation Course before they start work.

<ANSWER7>There are no occupational or sectoral restrictions, similar to current EP practices. Businesses can put in applications for S pass. MOM will then assess each application on its own merits based on the S pass criteria.
</ANSWER7>

<ANSWER8>The WP list of objectionable occupations (e.g. masseurs, bar and lounge hostesses) will apply to the S pass. S pass holders also cannot be employed by $13 ENV license foodstalls.
