Report: Pacific Andes ‘ordered to sell Russian assets’

Russia’s foreign investment government commission has ordered Pacific Andes, the parent company of China Fishery Group, to sell Russian fishing assets that it has allegedly illegally acquired, Russian media reported on Wednesday.
According to various media reports, the claim was made by Igor Artemyev, who heads the country’s Federal Anti-Monopoly Service.
In a quote published by the English-language website Rianovosti, Artemyev said: “We have made a decision today that the Chinese side must have permission if it wants to continue operations in the Far East. As there is no permission at present, the Chinese side should leave and sell its assets to Russian companies.”
Artemyev claims Pacific Andes gained control of the fishing assets through secret agreements, in which Russian shareholders were only nominal owners of quotas while the Chinese firm was the main beneficiary.
He said the FAS would take similar measures against Japanese and Korean companies that have also been found to illegally own shares in Russian companies.
However, Artemyev said the foreign investment commission offered Pacific Andes to consider joining onshore Russian fish processing companies. The government would not like Pacific Andes to leave completely, he said.
Pacific Andes has consistently denied owning fishing quotas or companies in Russia.
Neither Artemyev, nor the FAS, has ever provided names of the assets that it says Pacific Andes owns in Russia.
Undercurrent News was not able to get a comment from FAS or Pacific Andes on the matter.
