Q1 What are the school facilities?
The school has the most updated infrastructural norms that support PERI
initiatives. They aim to facilitate the following schooling functions:
1) Collaborative and Independent Learning (eg redesigned classrooms)
2) Differentiated Teaching Approaches (eg Subject Based Banding Room,
Learning Support Programme Room, Learning and Behavioural Support
Intervention Room)
3) Programme for Active Learning for Life Skills and Character Development
Band Room, Dance Studio, Performing Arts Studio in Media Resource Library,
Indoor Sports Hall, PAL Room, Outdoor Running Track
4) Outdoor Experiential Learning
possibilities include Outdoor Lab and/or Eco-pond and/or Herb garden etc
5) ‘Home in a School’ Experience for Socio-Emotional Development
Student Care Centre, Outdoor Fitness Playground
Q2 What are the programmes offered at the school?
Frontier will offer the standard subjects in the primary school national curriculum.
In addition, Frontier fully support the PERI initiatives and will roll out the following:
- Programme for Active Learning (PAL)
- PE, Music and Art (PAM)
- Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) through Form Teacher Guidance Period
(FTGP)
Through the curriculum, Frontier aims to achieve the MOE’s Desired Outcomes
of Education and the 21st century skills.
Q3 What other distinctive programmes are offered by the school?
Other than the national curriculum and the PERI programmes, Frontier will place
emphasis on Leadership Programmes and Aesthetic Programmes. These
programmes aim to cultivate the competencies needed for the 21st century. They
are also key platforms to promote character education and to provide pupils will a
holistic, all-rounded educational experience.
Q4 What kind of pupil will Frontier aim to develop after 6 years of
education.
Our curriculum model and our programmes aim to develop pupils who are
confident persons, self-directed learners, concerned citizens and active
contributors.
Frontier pupils are academically-strong, holistically developed and have a strong
sense of what is right and wrong. Every pupil is a leader and will be able to
exercise leadership competencies to varying degrees. Frontier pupils will also
cultivare an appreciation, interest or talent for the aesthetic (visual arts and
performing arts).
Q5 What are the CCAs offered?
At the moment, the school is anticipating only classes for Primary 1 and for the
lower primary, there will be no CCAs. They will participate in Programme for
Active Learning which includes Sports, Outdoor Education, Performing Arts and
Visual Arts.
Q6 Will the school be starting classes for the other levels is P2-P6?
Frontier Primary will only be starting classes for P1 in 2012 due to the availability
of classrooms in January. We will consider starting classes for the other levels
only in 2013.
Q7 What Mother Tongue will be offered?
Frontier Primary is offering Chinese Language and Malay Language.
Q8 What is the school uniform like?
For the first year, the pupils will wear the PE uniform. The school will place
considerable focus on the material of the PE uniform to ensure it is comfortable,
presentable and suited for the school activities. The school intends to study the
needs of the pupils and design an appropriate set of uniform by 2013. All parents
will be informed of the design of the PE uniform by Orientation Day.
Q9 What is the school’s starting time?
In alignment with PERI initiatives, Frontier aims to be a single-session school
committed to holistic education. To facilitate this, the school intends to start
school at 8am. This will allow pupils to have adequate rest before they start
school every day.
Q10 When will the building be completed?
The school is structurally safe and operational by Jan 2012. There will be some
constructions at the ISH and the field. The school will take all precautionary
measures to ensure pupil safety in the school. The school building will be
officially completed in May 2012.
Q11 Will there be a Student Care Center?
The Student Care Center is a feature of the new PERI infrastructural norms and
the school has the necessary rooms for the Student Care Center. However, the
BASC may not be ready to open in January 2012 for operations. We will explore
the opening of the BASC depending of the needs of the pupils as well as careful
selection of the service provider
Q12 Is school bus available?
The school will provide more details about transport arrangements and bus
vendors during the upcoming P1 Orientation Day.
Q13 Will the school have enough staff to start school operations?
Frontier Primary will have enough teachers and support staff to ensure smooth
running of the programmes when school starts. We also aim to interview and
recruit competent staff to provide high-quality care and programmes for all our
pupils.
