Overview of Global Economy
January 5, 2010
The tumultuous 10 years with war, recession, corporate malfeasance and drop-down housing market, finally shot up with momentum at the end of 2009, especially in manufacturing, for a key index of U.S. –purchasing managers’ index of manufacturing activity reached its highest level in three and a-half years ended on November 2 2009. But still, a blockbuster recovery may well be off the mark.
The driven factors could be the government emergency infusion of trillions of capital into the economy; boosting commodity price like soybean (+3.00 changes on 06/01/2010), platinum (+13.90 changes on 06/01/2010), etc; weakening dollar power; investor sentiment.
Ahead, the figure of consumer confidence dropped from expected 3.5% to 2.8% in December 2009. The confidence of consumer in housing sector should remain as a big problem and the same goes to the biggest question: high unemployment clouding on top of England, USA, etc.
Report has showed that severe unemployment worsened in big cities in November. The government reported that 17 of 372 metropolitan areas surveyed that unemployment rate of at least 15% in November up from 15 areas in October.
Editor’s comment: A 2% average growth rate for the whole year is predicted, the hint of recovery does not mean 2010 is a safe year to pass on. Government central bank must fix their balance sheet problem, like USA, but the infusion of capital will deepen their financial deficit problem. And anymore spending that drastically increases the federal budget deficit could lead some foreign investors to bail on the dollar, plus the fragile financial system, unsolved unemployment problem, 2010 is well going to be a very complicated year to survive. But if you diversify the asset allocation and save the capital, you may well get to see a historical triumph in a near future.
